Frequently Asked Questions

How does 24/7 live in care work?

24hr home care means that a carer will be available 24/7 for the needs of you or your loved one. They will live in your home with you and assist you with your daily activities such as meal preparation, household chores, and bathing. They can provide companionship and help you take your medication.

What are Carers not allowed to do?

Carers are not allowed to do any task that would require the qualifications of a district nurse. They are also not required to help with any home improvement or DIY projects.

How long does Home Care last?

Live in care, or daily help will depend on your personal needs. Some people may only require a few weeks' assistance, while others may need it for life.

What is the difference between Home Care and Home Health Care?

Home Care provides you or your loved one with non-clinical help. In contrast, Home Health Care provides you with professional medical assistance in your home.

When do I need Home Care?

When you cannot perform daily tasks without assistance, live-in care will provide you with the physical and emotional help you need while preserving your dignity and personal comfort. We are a nationwide care agency that can support you in the safety of your own home.

Who benefits from live-in care?

Anyone who desires to function independently at home but requires help will benefit from domiciliary care.

Does my live-in carer work 24 hours a day?

No. No-one can work 24 hours a day. If you require 24 hour care we would provide 2 live in carers. To cover your day and night needs. Live in carers are contracted to work between 8 -10 hours a day on an average daily agreement. They must have at least 2 hours break per day when they can leave the home and of course cups of tea with you during the day.

Does the carer live in my home?

Yes. Your live in carer lives with you and shares your home. They need their own room, bed, bed linen, Wi-Fi, chest of drawers and access to a clean bathroom. A cupboard in the kitchen for their personal food items also helps.

Will a live in carer cook for me?

Work with your live-in carer, devise a meal plan for the week for them to cook. Discuss recipes and how you like food cooked. The more input you can give the more your meals will taste the way you like them. Healthy, nutritious, fresh meals are important for your overall well being and our live in carers understand the importance of this.

Does my live-in carer have to be with me all the time?

No. Your live in carer is there for you when you need them. They can also disappear into the background when you don’t want them. We can detail this in a care plan. But also establishing effective communication and boundaries from the beginning means that you can manage your care package your way. Our live-in carers will not be offended if you ask for some space. Remember they have housework to do but also extra time off is always appreciated. If you are worried about this at all, don’t forget you have a dedicated Care Co-ordinator who will make sure your care journey is working your way.

What is a care plan?

Ranger Home Care work on an electronic system called PASS. We store all personal details, such as care plans and MAR records in the cloud. Live-in carers use their mobile phones to access this information and ensure they are delivering your care journey correctly. Your care plan will evolve with your care journey, changes can be made all the time. Your Care Co-ordinator and live in carer will make sure this is fluid and always reflects the care you want.

What checks do you do on your live in carers?

Ranger Home Care handpick all our live in carers. All live in carers complete the Skills for Care accredited Care Certificate, mandatory courses, are fully trained, in house for moving and handling, and more complex care such as BiPap, Stoma etc. We also make sure that live in carers have: - The right to work in the UK - An excellent level of spoken and written English - Passed the enhanced Basic Disclosure checks by the Criminal Records Bureau

Will live in carers do the shopping, ironing, and housework?

Depending on the complexity of your care depends on how much time a live in carer has to complete housework and ironing. We do not supply live in carers to do a ‘deep clean’. We do ask them to keep the communally used areas clean and hygienic. They will do the ironing for their client only. All carers will do the shopping and if there are no shops nearby, online ordering is very convenient.

What happens when my carer goes on holiday?

Your contract with Ranger Home Care is for us to provide you with care 52 weeks of the year. So don’t panic, we will give you notice of when your live-in carer has booked a holiday. It is then our responsibility to provide you with another live in carer.

What happens if I don't like my carer?

As much as we work with you to get a good match, it doesn’t always work out. That’s why you use an agency. We share your care journey and will take on board your comments and manage the situation so that you are happy and content with our live in care service.
