cerebal-palsy-care

Ross’s Story

Living with cerebral palsy, Ross was unable to independently complete daily tasks before he had live-in care. Live-in care enabled him to regain his independence without being limited by his physical constraints.

Ranger Home Care would like to introduce you to one of our earliest clients Ross.

Beginning

Before joining Ranger Home Care, Ross faced many adversities. Born with cerebral palsy, he was unable to independently complete daily tasks like doing the laundry and washing the dishes. Likewise, he disliked the idea of living his life without having any choice or independence due to his physical constraints. Although he knew that a carer would help to solve such issues, he still questioned the nature of live-in care. Could I bare to live with somebody 24/7? Would I be able to have my own space? And would this carer treat me as their job or a person?

After interviewing several live-in care agencies, Ross concluded after meeting James – Director Ranger Home Care, he would trust our live in care service.  We removed his doubts because, in his words, we recognised ‘potential beyond impairment.’ He believes that Ranger Home Care’s eagerness to provide both clinical care as well as a sense of independence is what allows its clients to have a high quality of life.

Care Journey

Ross’ first carer was the current Registered Manager of Ranger Home Care, Taryke Van Rensberg. The two developed a close bond and are still friends to this day, with Ross saying, ‘had Taryke not been Taryke, I don’t know what I would have done.’ Ross believes that the open conversations allows for a trusting relationship to be founded, which permits our clients to focus on other areas of their life, whilst we focus on their health and care. Since becoming a client, Ross has been able to overcome both his daily challenges and life challenges. as our carers help him to complete his everyday tasks, in addition to enabling him to dictate his own life, meaning that he now has the opportunities that he once didn’t, like going to London Fashion Week or the House of Lords or simply being able to lock his own front door. Ranger Home Care introduced Ross to Alexa and he can now finally turn his own light on and off.

Ross is also the founder of his own company, meaning that he must oversee the work of other people. Therefore, by providing him with the care that he needs, he can focus on the management of others, allowing him to perform at the optimum level in the workplace.

Live-in care has allowed Ross to be a more supportive family member. Prior to the unfortunate passing of his father, Ross was able to help both his father and the rest of his family as he received a support system via Ranger Home Care. As a result, the crucial last moments that Ross and his family spent with their father were even more precious, as Ross had become the independent man that his father and him had hoped he would become. Ranger Home Care value sharing Ross’s care journey and friendship.
